Immunizations

Immunizations

Oregon law requires specific vaccines for school and child care attendance based on age and grade level. Parents must submit proof their children are immunized against the specified diseases. Only medical or religious reasons will exempt children from provisions of the law. School administrators are required by Oregon law to deny admission to children who are not immunized.

Immunizations are available at all Multnomah County Student Health Centers. For current year immunization requirements, please see the flyers below:

Access to Safe, Effective Vaccines in Oregon for Respiratory Virus Season (updated October 20, 2025)

The Governors of Oregon, California, Hawaii, and Washington have formed the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA) to bring consistency on the west coast for vaccinations. The WCHA is committed to safeguarding scientific expertise and vaccine access, while leading with clarity, science, and care so that individuals and families know their options and can access the protection they deserve.

Recently, the WCHA has released the Consensus WCHA 2025-2026 Respiratory Virus Season Immunization Recommendations, providing clarity on vaccine eligibility for Oregonians and others in WCHA states. Additionally, the OHA Getting Vaccines in Oregon webpage includes an FAQ and virus season immunization recommendations.

Key Information

  • COVID-19 Vaccines
    • Updated COVID-19 vaccines are available to anyone, 6 months of age and older, who wants them — this is unchanged from recent respiratory seasons.
    • No prescription is required for the COVID-19 vaccine – either in pharmacies or in provider offices.
    • Medicaid and Medicare and most commercial insurers will continue to cover the cost of the updated COVID-19 vaccines in Oregon.
  • Influenza Vaccine
    • The WCHA endorses the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices’ (ACIP) current universal recommendation for the influenza vaccine. All people 6 months of age and older should receive an updated influenza vaccine. These recommendations are unchanged from last year.
  • RSV Vaccine

Changes to Oregon Immunization Requirements (effective August 1, 2025)

  1. A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) form with a parent signature documenting the date of chickenpox (varicella) disease will no longer be accepted to document immunity. Schools may accept parent signed history of varicalle disease only if received prior to August 1, 2025.

Acceptable immunity documentation:

  • A letter signed by a health care provider with authority to diagnose disease
  • A lab report with reference ranges
  • A print out from the Alert Immunization Information System (ALERT IIS) showing immunity
  • Documentation from a representative of a local health department
  1. Exclusion Day is moving from the third Wednesday to the fourth Wednesday in February. This gives parents an extra week to provide immunization records or documentation of an exemption or immunity to the school. If the school does not have the required immunization records or documentation by Exclusion Day, the student will not be permitted to attend school.
