FAQ Sheet: E-Bike/E-Scooter/E-Moto
- Electric Bike (E-Bike): A two-or three-wheeled vehicle with fully operable pedals and an electric motor of no more than 1,000 watts. Depending on its class, motor assistance may reach 20 mph or 28 mph under Oregon law.
- Electric Scooter (E-Scooter): A device designed to be stood or sat upon and powered by human propulsion or an electric motor of no more than 1,000 watts. Oregon law limits operation on public roadways and paths to 15 mph.
- Electric bikes and electric scooters are NOT allowed on elementary school or middle school campuses. If a student brings an e-bike or e-scooter to elementary or middle school, school staff will immediately contact the student’s parents/guardians to pick up the bike or scooter.
- Electric bikes and electric scooters ARE allowed on the Centennial High School campus so long as the rider is 16 years of age or older, and is following the rules of the road. Devices must be dismounted and walked on pedestrian walkways (ORS 814.410) and locked in designated bike racks. Students are responsible for providing their own locks and for properly locking their bikes and scooters to designated bike racks.
- Electric Motorcycle (E-Moto): Electric two-wheelers that exceed e-bike specifications—for example, devices exceeding 1,000 watts, lacking operable pedals, or exceeding applicable e-bike speed thresholds. Examples include Sur-Ron and Talaria-style vehicles. These may be classified as mopeds or motorcycles under Oregon law.
- Electric motorcycles are NOT allowed on elementary school or middle school campuses. If a student brings an e-moto to elementary or middle school, school staff will immediately contact the student’s parents/guardians to pick up the motorcycle.
- Electric motorcycles ARE allowed on the Centennial High School campus so long as the rider is 16 years of age or older, and they possess a valid operator’s license with motorcycle endorsement, proof of insurance of the E-Moto, and vehicle registration. Electric motorcycles must be parked in an appropriate vehicle parking spot within designated parking areas on campus.
